Sinner Vows to Bring in Changes After Losing US Crown
New york: Jannik Sinner said he is set to bring in some changes to make his game more varied after losing his US Open crown to Carlos Alcaraz and surrendering his number one slot in the world ranking to the Spaniard with Sunday’s 6-2, 3-6, 6-3, 6-4 defeat in the final of the men’s singles at Flushing Meadows.
According to Ansa News Agency, the 24-year-old Italian added that he is willing to lose games he would usually be expected to win as part of the process of developing his way of playing. “I was very predictable today on court,” Sinner said after the match in New York. “He did many things, he changed up the game. That’s also his style of how he plays. Now it’s going to be on me if I want to make changes or not.”
Sinner expressed his commitment to working on his game to prepare better for future matches against Alcaraz. “That’s definitely what we are going to work on. I’m trying to be more prepared for the next match that I will play against him,” Sinner stated. He noted the importance of arriving prepar
ed for matches against opponents like Carlos Alcaraz, emphasizing the need to step out of his comfort zone.
Sinner acknowledged his predictable gameplay during the tournament, admitting that he did not use serve-volleys or drop shots effectively. He emphasized the need to become more unpredictable and adaptable as a player. “So I’m going to aim to maybe even lose some matches from now on, but trying to do some changes, trying to be a bit more unpredictable as a player, because I think that’s what I have to do, trying to become a better tennis player. At the end of the day, that’s my main goal,” he concluded.
