Italy’s Women’s Volleyball Team to Be Honored by President Mattarella
Rome: Italy’s women’s volleyball team is set to be honored by President Sergio Mattarella at a special reception at the Quirinal Palace in Rome. The team recently triumphed over Turkey in the final of the world championships held in Bangkok, marking another significant achievement in their illustrious sporting history.
According to Ansa News Agency, the victory in Bangkok was the team’s 36th consecutive win, adding the world championship title to their Olympic crown secured last year. This win marks the Azzurre’s second world title, occurring 23 years after their first. Coach Julio Velasco expressed the unique significance of this victory, stating it was more emotional than their Olympic success due to the challenging nature of the competition.
Velasco highlighted the distinct flavor of this accomplishment, crediting the world title, the Olympics, and two consecutive Nations Leagues as testament to the team’s legendary status. “It’s a great feeling, I’m proud of them,” he added, emphasizing the pride and joy this victory has brought to the team and their supporters.
