Italian Retail Sales See Consecutive Decline in August

Rome: After falling in month-on-month terms in July, Istat said Friday that Italian retail sales were down again in August.

According to Ansa News Agency, the national statistics agency reported that sales decreased by 0.1% in value and 0.3% in volume in August compared to the previous month.

The decline affected both food goods, which fell by 0.1% in value and 0.4% in volume, and non-food goods, which saw a decrease of 0.1% in value and 0.2% in volume.

Istat further indicated that while retail sales were up 0.5% in value compared to August 2024, they were down 1.3% in volume, suggesting that consumers are spending more for lesser quantities.
