Skiing: Marta Bassino Fractures Tibia in Training
Val senales: Italian skier Marta Bassino fractured her tibia in training on Wednesday. The giant slalom specialist suffered a lateral fracture of the tibial plateau in her left leg during a fall while training with the women’s team in Val Senales ahead of the opening of the World Cup on Saturday in Soelden, Italian skiing sources said.
According to Ansa News Agency, the 29-year-old from Piedmont was tackling a flat section of the Leo Gurschler slope when she suffered a slip. Immediately assisted by the Italian Skiing Federation (FISI) medical commission, she was taken to the Merano hospital, where an X-ray revealed the fracture.
Cuneo-born Bassino has won nine World Cup giant slaloms.
