One in Three Italian Households Cutting Food Spending
Rome: The consumer spending of households in Italy remained stable last year, but one in three families cut their food budget, Istat said on Tuesday. The national statistics agency reported that over 30% of households reduced their food expenditures by limiting either the quantity or quality of their purchases.
According to Ansa News Agency, over 35% of Italian households also reported cutting their spending on drinks. Despite these reductions in specific areas, the overall average monthly expenditure for Italian households in 2024 was 2,755 euros, which shows a slight increase from the 2,738 euros recorded in 2023.
Istat highlighted a regional disparity in spending, noting that families in the north-east of Italy spent, on average, 834 euros more each month compared to those in southern regions. This data reflects ongoing economic challenges and regional differences in household spending across Italy.
