Conte Satisfied with Napoli’s Effort Despite 2-0 Loss to Manchester City
Napoli: Napoli coach Antonio Conte expressed his satisfaction with his team’s commitment despite a 2-0 defeat to Manchester City in their Champions League opener. The match was significantly impacted by Giovanni Di Lorenzo’s red card in the first half for a last-man foul on Erling Haaland.
According to Ansa News Agency, the red card forced Conte to substitute Kevin De Bruyne midway through the first half. De Bruyne was making his return to the stadium where he had been a standout player for a decade. Despite the setback, Napoli displayed resilience against the English champions.
In the second half, Manchester City managed to break through the Italian champions’ defense with goals from Erling Haaland and Jeremy Doku. Conte acknowledged the difficulty of playing against City, especially with a player down, but praised his team for their initial performance.
Conte told Sky Sport, “There’s a bitter taste in our mouths, because we had prepared for a match like we played it in the first 20 minutes.” He added, “T
he sending off ruined everything. It’s already difficult to play against City with 11 men, but in those 20 minutes I saw great attitude, they would have had a hard time against us tonight.”
