Salvini Claims Assault by Protesters at League Event in Livorno

Rome: League leader, Deputy Premier, and Transport Minister Matteo Salvini stated Tuesday that he and other League ministers were kicked and spat on by protesters outside a League event in Livorno. The event was held in anticipation of Tuscany’s regional elections set for next weekend.

According to Ansa News Agency, Salvini expressed concerns that the presence of protesters not only prevented ministers from arriving but also hindered citizens from attending the event. He described the situation, saying, “People have been kicked, spat on, and had eggs thrown at them.” Salvini emphasized the unprecedented nature of the incident, stating, “I’ve never seen anything like this happen to me.”

The Economy Minister Giancarlo Giorgetti and Disabilities Minister Alessandra Locatelli were reportedly unable to reach the venue immediately. Meanwhile, Education Minister Giuseppe Valditara experienced damage to his vehicle as protesters allegedly kicked his car. The incident highlights the growing tensions as regional elections approach, with the League party facing resistance from demonstrators.
