Rome US-Iran Nuke Talks Constructive Says Tajani

Rome: The fifth round of talks on Iran’s nuclear programme between the US and Tehran in Rome Friday were constructive, Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani said. “I will not go into the merits of the negotiations” between Iran and the US “but it seems to me that all parties believe that it was a constructive meeting, which however has not yet led to a conclusion of the negotiations,” said Tajani, who is also deputy premier, in Mexico City.

According to Ansa News Agency, Tajani noted that despite the constructive nature of the discussions, there are still unresolved elements preventing an agreement. He emphasized the ongoing efforts to reach a resolution and mentioned his detailed discussions with both the Iranian and Omani Foreign Ministers.

Tajani highlighted the importance of mutual efforts to achieve an agreement, starting with Iran, particularly concerning the issue of atomic weapons. He stated that the Iranian Foreign Minister assured him that Iran does not intend to develop an atomic bomb, but stressed that such assurances must extend into the future to ensure lasting security.
