Hungarian Foreign Minister Criticizes European Response to Georgian Elections.

Tbilisi: Speaking in Tbilisi on Tuesday, Péter Szijjártó, Hungary’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade, criticized “13 European foreign ministers” for their quick reaction to the Georgian elections. He remarked that these officials, whom he described as the “usual whiners and official fear mongers,” are unnecessarily agitating over the electoral outcomes in Georgia.

According to About Hungary, before his meeting with Georgian Foreign Minister Ilia Darchiasvili, Minister Szijjártó expressed his views on Facebook. He asserted that numerous European Union countries fail to grasp that democracy is fundamentally about the will of the people, rather than being dictated by appointments from Brussels. He claimed that mainstream liberals often consider a country democratic only when a liberal party is victorious in elections.

Minister Szijjártó further noted that Hungary has endured “similar external attacks” for the past 14 years. Despite these challenges, he affirmed Hungary’s commitment to collaborating closel
y with the Georgian government to expedite its European integration.
