Campsite Fire at Castiglione Pescaia, 600 Evacuated
Castiglione della pescaia: Some 600 people were evacuated after a campsite fire at Castiglione della Pescaia near Grosseto in southern coastal Tuscany on Thursday.
According to Ansa News Agency, the fire started from a faulty watermaker. Volunteers and firefighters are on site, working to control the blaze. Two firefighting helicopters are also in the air, attempting to douse the flames.
The flames have caused several gas cylinders to explode, and the fire is spreading to the surrounding pine forest. By order of the prefecture, tourists are being evacuated to a local sports hall, where a collection point is being set up with water and shade for their safety and comfort.
Autolinee Toscane vehicles and municipal school buses are being used to transport the evacuees to the designated safe area.
