Ambassador Trichilo on a Mission to Strengthen Ties in Vukovar and Ilok

Zagreb: The Italian Ambassador to Zagreb, Paolo Trichilo, embarked on a diplomatic mission to the easternmost region of Croatia, visiting the towns of Vukovar and Ilok. This visit aimed to foster stronger ties between Italy and Croatia in areas such as economic development, tourism, and culture.

According to Ansa News Agency, Ambassador Trichilo began his visit in Vukovar, where he inaugurated an exhibition on Italian design and brand. The exhibition showcased materials from the Museum of the Italian Brand in Naples and highlighted furniture that marries the elegance of ‘Made in Italy’ with sustainable production. During his meetings with local authorities, both parties expressed a mutual commitment to enhancing cooperation in areas of shared interest. The President of the Vukovar and Srijem Region noted a significant increase of nearly 40% in Italian tourists over the past year.

In Ilok, a town with deep historical connections to Italy, Ambassador Trichilo visited the Odescalchi Palace, which houses the lo
cal civic museum. This museum is situated on an estate historically granted to the noble Odescalchi family by Emperor Leopold I of Habsburg for their role in the Battle of Vienna in 1683. Ilok also holds historical significance as the place of death of St John of Capestrano, after whom a prominent church in the town is named.

The ambassador’s mission concluded with a visit to the Adriatica Dunav company in Vukovar, a part of the Italian Adriatica K group. This international leader in the production and marketing of fertilizers has its only production plant outside Italy in Vukovar. Ambassador Trichilo was welcomed by Dr. Massimo Ferro, a former member of parliament and senator, who is now a member of the Ice board of directors. Dr. Ferro outlined the growth strategies of the group, which boasts eight subsidiaries across all continents.
