Worldwide Hacking of Private Videos Uncovered by Treviso Firm

Treviso: A portal featuring thousands of audio-video recordings illicitly stolen from more than 2,000 private surveillance cameras inside homes, medical studios, and businesses such as beauty salons around the world has been discovered by a Treviso-based firm and reported to the Italian postal police, sources said on Thursday.

According to Ansa News Agency, the portal, which was on the ‘clearnet’, was easily accessible through search engines and had been operational since at least December. It offered users short excerpts of recordings for free, while also providing the option to purchase access to a camera for additional content or to gain control over it. Some of these recordings have been viewed more than 20,000 times, with prices ranging from about $20 to $575.

Analysis of the camera IDs revealed that the recordings originated from countries including France, Germany, Russia, Ukraine, Mexico, and Argentina. Approximately 150 videos have been identified as being in Italy. The illicit portal was discovered by Yarix, a cybersecurity unit of the Var Group.
