Rome: The government is preparing a bill that will give doctors a ‘shield’ protecting them from criminal charges in relation to their professional activities, sources said Thursday. Under a draft of the bill, health professionals would only face criminal charges in the case of “gross negligence”, making a shield provisionally established during the COVID-19 pandemic permanent. The bill is expected to be presented at a cabinet meeting on Thursday.

According to Ansa News Agency, the proposed legislation aims to provide legal protection for medical professionals, ensuring they can perform their duties without the fear of potential legal repercussions, except in cases where gross negligence is evident.
