Wine Sector Faces Potential 2 Billion Euro Loss Due to US Tariffs and Changing Trends
Verona: Italy’s wine sector risks losing two billion euros in revenue from the United States market because of the combined effects of US President Donald Trump’s tariffs and new consumption trends among young people, the Federvini association of wine producers and exporters said on Monday.
According to Ansa News Agency, Federvini President Micaela Pallini, speaking at the Vinitaly wine fair in Verona, emphasized the urgent need for a strategic vision for Italian wine. Pallini noted that isolated reactions are no longer sufficient to tackle the challenges posed by tariffs and the evolving consumption patterns among youth.
Pallini highlighted that the 20% duties on Italian wines could potentially drive them off American shelves, giving a competitive edge to other countries. She stressed that defending the wine sector is crucial for maintaining Italy’s global image. The potential loss of two billion euros underscores the importance of developing a comprehensive approach to safeguard Italy’s position in the US market.
