EU to Impose First Tariffs Against US on April 15, List in Preparation: Tajani

Luxembourg: The first European Union tariffs in retaliation to US President Donald Trump’s imposition of 20% tariffs are set to be implemented on April 15, with a list of targeted US products currently being formulated, announced Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani on Monday. Tajani, who also serves as the deputy premier, disclosed this information while attending an EU Trade Council meeting.

According to Ansa News Agency, Tajani mentioned that the list is based on an existing draft, which he had previously requested to be delayed. However, the consensus now appears to favor proceeding with the implementation on the specified date. When questioned about the inclusion of whiskey on the list, Tajani expressed his desire for it to be excluded. He noted that the final list would be established imminently, expressing cautious optimism about the negotiations. Tajani also indicated that a second set of countermeasures is anticipated for May 15, though he emphasized that there is still an opportunity for negotiations before the April 15 deadline.
