Wimbledon: Sinner Could Face Djokovic in Semis Then Alcaraz
London: World number one Jannik Sinner, who has never reached a Wimbledon final, might face 24-time Grand Slam winner Novak Djokovic in this year’s semi-finals. This matchup could possibly lead to a rematch of his recent French Open final against Spain’s Carlos Alcaraz, as revealed by the tournament draw.
According to Ansa News Agency, Sinner, a 23-year-old with three Grand Slam titles, returned from a three-month doping suspension just in time for Roland Garros. In the first round, he is set to play against world number 94, Luca Nardi, a 21-year-old from Pesaro in Marche. If successful, Sinner could face American Tommy Paul in the last 16, his fellow Italian Lorenzo Musetti in the quarter-finals, Djokovic or British number four seed Jack Draper in the semis, and world number two Carlos Alcaraz in the final.
Sinner’s potential final against Alcaraz would offer a chance to avenge his French Open defeat, where he held four match points in the fourth set before losing 10-2 in the fifth set tie-break. Meanwhile
, speculation about changes in Sinner’s team is increasing at Wimbledon. Reports suggest he is likely to end his collaboration with athletic trainer Marco Panichi and physiotherapist Ulises Badio. Both joined Sinner’s team in September 2024 after working with Novak Djokovic, replacing Umberto Ferrara and Giacomo Naldi, who were dismissed following a clenbuterol contamination incident.
