Vesuvius Blaze Rages On

Naples: A wildfire that broke out on Mount Vesuvius on Saturday continued to burn fiercely as of Monday. Firefighters and water-dumping Canadairs have been tirelessly engaged in combating the blaze, which authorities suspect was deliberately ignited. The fire has already consumed hundreds of hectares of vegetation within the volcano’s park, creating a visible plume detectable from space.

According to Ansa News Agency, this wildfire is part of a larger trend of arson-related fires that have ravaged over 56,000 hectares of forest and farmland this year. This figure surpasses the total area affected by similar incidents in 2024, highlighting the growing challenge of managing and preventing such destructive events.
