Veneto Governor Urges Autonomy Supporters to Boycott Potential Referendum
VENICE: Governor Luca Zaia of Veneto has advised supporters of the government’s differentiated autonomy legislation to boycott a potential referendum aimed at abolishing the law. This legislation allows regions to have more control over how tax revenues collected in their areas are spent.
According to Ansa News Agency, the Supreme Court of Cassation has approved the referendum, but Zaia emphasized that the final decision rests with the Constitutional Court. He remarked on the strategic importance of abstaining from voting in the referendum, which has a quorum requirement that could determine its outcome. Zaia urged patience and respect for the impending decision from the Constitutional Court, expected around January 20.
