US Military Neutralizes 20 Houthi Drones and Missiles in Yemen, Says CENTCOM

WASHINGTON: The United States military has effectively neutralized 20 Houthi-operated uncrewed aerial systems and land cruise missiles in Yemen over a series of days, according to a statement from the US Central Command (CENTCOM). The operation was carried out in a Houthi-controlled region, targeting weapons that posed a significant threat to U.S. forces, allies, and civilians in the area.

According to Anadolu Agency, these weapons, supplied by Iran, were launched intermittently by the Houthis and Iranian-Aligned Militia Groups (IAMGs). The risk they presented was substantial, as they targeted the United States and its partner forces, as well as civilian populations in the region and beyond. CENTCOM reported that the drones and missiles were intercepted and destroyed using a combination of US Air Force and Navy resources stationed in the area.

CENTCOM confirmed that no US service members were harmed during the operations. The statement emphasized the ongoing threat posed by these weapons and the need for co
ntinued vigilance in the region.

In recent developments, Houthi forces have directed their attacks toward Israeli-linked cargo vessels navigating the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden. These actions are in solidarity with the Gaza Strip, which has been under an Israeli military offensive since October 7, 2023. The Red Sea remains a vital maritime corridor, heavily trafficked by oil and fuel shipments.

Earlier this year, US Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin announced the initiation of Operation Prosperity Guardian. This multinational mission aims to counteract the threat of Houthi aggression in the region, ensuring the security of maritime routes and contributing to regional stability.
