United Effort Continues with Determination Says Schlein
Rome: The centre left’s united effort will continue with determination in the five upcoming regional elections after its candidate Matteo Ricci lost to the centre-right incumbent Governor Francesco Acquaroli in the regional elections in Marche at the weekend, centre-left opposition Democratic Party (PD) leader Elly Schlein said. “Congratulations to Francesco Acquaroli, who won, reconfirming his leadership of the Marche region,” she said.
According to Ansa News Agency, Schlein expressed gratitude towards Matteo Ricci for his commitment during the electoral campaign and acknowledged the groundwork laid for future opposition efforts in the region. Schlein remarked, “On behalf of the entire party, I would like to thank Matteo Ricci for his generous electoral campaign and for the project of change he patiently built together with all the other allied political and civic forces. It will be a valuable tool for establishing the opposition work that awaits us in the region.”
Schlein also reflected on the challenges faced in the Marche region, noting the centre right’s five-year governance. “We knew it wouldn’t be easy in the Marche, where the centre right had already been governing for five years. We put a lot of effort into it, but this time it wasn’t enough,” she stated.
Despite the setback, Schlein emphasized the continued efforts and determination of the centre left. “I thank all the candidates and those who worked hard for the election campaign. Now, five more regions await us at the polls until the end of November, and our united effort with the progressive coalition alongside our candidates continues with great determination.” The upcoming regional votes are scheduled in Calabria on October 5-6, Tuscany on October 12-13, and in Veneto, Campania, and Puglia on November 24-25.
