Italy Set to Overtake Turkey as Fourth Most Visited Tourist Destination

Rome: Italy is poised to become the fourth most visited tourist destination in the world, surpassing Turkey, as Premier Giorgia Meloni announced at the World Travel and Tourism Council (WTTC) Global Summit in Rome. Currently ranked fifth behind France, Spain, the United States, and Turkey, Italy is experiencing significant growth in international arrivals.

According to Ansa News Agency, Premier Meloni expressed pride in Italy’s achievements, highlighting the country’s status as the leading European nation in regional tourism competitiveness and the second in Europe for tourist arrivals. With nearly 58 million international arrivals, Italy is set to climb in the global rankings. The WTTC Global Summit, held for the first time in Italy, underscores the nation’s strong tourism sector and government commitment to supporting this key industry.

Premier Meloni acknowledged Tourism Minister Daniela Santanch¨ for her efforts in bringing the summit to Italy and for her ongoing work in bolstering the sector. Tourism is a major contributor to Italy’s economy, accounting for 13% of the GDP, and plays a vital role in job creation and attracting investment. Beyond its economic impact, tourism is seen as a means of promoting Italy’s values and lifestyle, enhancing the nation’s global identity.
