‘Ukraine Is Not An Object’, Zuppi Asserts Ahead of Alaska Summit

Alaska: Ukraine is not an object, Italian bishops chief and papal Ukraine envoy Matteo Zuppi said on Friday’s summit in Alaska between United States President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin where land swaps for peace, rejected by Kyiv, will be on the table from which President Volodymyr Zelensky will be absent.

According to Ansa News Agency, Zuppi, president of the Italian Episcopal Conference (CEI), emphasized the importance of including Ukraine in any peace discussions. He made these remarks in Castel Volturno (Caserta) while responding to questions from reporters about the upcoming August 15 summit in Alaska between Trump and Putin.

Zuppi recently visited 50 Ukrainian children who had arrived at the Fernandes Center, a Caritas facility that hosts migrants. This visit was part of the national project “It’s More Beautiful Together,” promoted by Caritas Italiana with the support of the Italian Episcopal Conference.
