Meloni Calls for Immediate Ceasefire in Gaza During Talk with Saudi PM

Rome: Premier Giorgia Meloni on Tuesday engaged in a telephone conversation with Saudi Prime Minister and hereditary Prince S.A.R. Mohamed bin Salman Al Saud, urging an immediate ceasefire in Gaza. She expressed concerns over Israel’s intentions to occupy Gaza City and highlighted the need to address the humanitarian crisis in the region, as stated by her office.

According to Ansa News Agency, the discussion between Meloni and bin Salman provided an opportunity to examine the latest developments in the Gaza conflict and explore key aspects of bilateral cooperation. Both leaders voiced their apprehensions regarding Israel’s recent actions, which seem to be escalating military tensions further.

The leaders stressed the necessity of an immediate halt to hostilities to alleviate the humanitarian crisis in Gaza and commence reconstruction efforts. Meloni emphasized the crucial role Arab nations play in this process. Both parties agreed that a political approach toward a two-state solution is essential for establishing a just and lasting peace. Meloni reiterated the importance of Hamas releasing hostages unconditionally and accepting that it cannot influence the future of the Strip.

The conversation also served to reaffirm the mutual commitment to enhancing bilateral cooperation across various sectors of mutual interest. This includes implementing the strategic partnership between Rome and Riyadh, initiated during Meloni’s visit to Al-Ula last January.
