Two Officers Wounded in Beccaria Juvenile Prison Riot
Milan: Two prison guards were taken to the ER with minor injuries after a revolt broke out at Milan’s Beccaria Juvenile Jail on Monday. Carabinieri police intervened to stop the riot after inmates set a mattress on fire on the second floor of the building.
According to Ansa News Agency, the two officers were wounded when detainees hurled objects during the protest while a few detainees, a doctor, and more officers suffered smoke inhalation. They were treated at the prison. The fire was extinguished and the riot was over, they said.
A number of riots were reported at the Beccaria prison last year, including in May when mattresses were set on fire to create chaos and enable a group of detainees to unsuccessfully attempt an evasion.
