Two Die of Heat-Induced Illness on Sardinia Beaches

Sardinia: Two elderly men had bad turns or strokes and died on beaches in Sardinia Wednesday as a fierce heatwave continues to grip Italy.

According to Ansa News Agency, a 75-year-old man was struck down by illness in Budoni, on the north-eastern coast. The 118 emergency service arrived on site with an ambulance and the Areus helicopter, but there was nothing that could be done.

In San Teodoro, on the beach of Lu Impostu, not far from the site of the first tragedy, a 60-year-old man was struck by sudden illness. In this case too, the 118 emergency service was called, which tried in vain to save the man.

In Sardinia, temperatures in recent days have exceeded 40 degrees.
