Terna Signs pound 2 Billion Interconnection Deal with Greece

Rome: Italian electrical power grid operator Terna has signed a pound 2 billion deal with its Greek counterpart to establish interconnections between Italy and Greece. This announcement was made by Premier Giorgia Meloni during a joint press conference with Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis at the conclusion of the Italy-Greece intergovernmental summit in Rome.

According to Ansa News Agency, Premier Meloni highlighted the strategic advantage of Italy’s location in the Mediterranean, emphasizing its role as a central hub in global dynamics, providing the shortest route between the Atlantic and the Indo-Pacific. This geographical positioning is pivotal for the proposed interconnections.

Meloni also mentioned ongoing collaborations between Italy and Greece on strategic projects such as the Blue Med and Green Med fiber optic cables. She expressed the commitment of both nations to further develop such initiatives. The newly signed agreement between Terna and the Greek electricity transmission grid operator marks a significant step toward evaluating and enhancing electricity interconnections between the two countries.
