Teen ‘Internet Saint’ Carlo Acutis to be Canonised Alongside Activist Pier Giorgio Frassati

Vatican City: Teenager Carlo Acutis, known as the ‘Internet saint’, will be canonised on September 7, as announced by Pope Leo XIV during a Consistory held on Friday. Acutis, a young student from Lombardy, passed away from leukaemia at the age of 15 in 2006. He has since become a model of Christian life for young believers and is regarded as the ‘patron saint of the internet’.

According to Ansa News Agency, the canonisation of Acutis had been postponed due to the death of Pope Francis. In May of the previous year, Pope Francis declared that Acutis had fulfilled the requirements to become a saint after a second miracle attributed to him was confirmed. This miracle involved the healing of a young girl from Costa Rica.

Carlo Acutis has been expedited through the canonisation process, reflecting his significant impact on the Catholic community. He will not be alone in this honour, as Pier Giorgio Frassati will also be canonised on the same day. Frassati, who lived from 1901 to 1925, was an activist committed to social justice. He was involved in various charitable organizations, such as Catholic Action and the Society of Saint Vincent de Paul, aiming to support the impoverished and disadvantaged in his native Turin.
