Security Measures Heightened in Rome Following Israeli Actions on Iranian Nuclear Facilities
Rome: Security was further boosted Friday at Rome’s Jewish ghetto and other such sensitive sites in the Italian capital following Israel’s attack on Iranian nuclear targets. Even though security measures have long since been raised to the highest levels, “a focus has been opened on various fronts – information, investigation and surveillance – that the relevant offices are implementing also to adopt any measures in case it becomes necessary to further increase the level of protection of the targets”, sources from the Rome police headquarters said.
According to Ansa News Agency, Italy’s Jewish community expressed support for the days-long operation aimed at degrading or destroying Tehran’s nuclear program. “We are following the developments of the Israeli night attack on the Iranian nuclear threat and the impact of the Iranian retaliation on Israel and its population,” the Union of Italian Jewish Communities stated.
“Our communities are also on maximum alert in coordination with the police forces to whom we reiterate our deep appreciation. The Italian Jewish communities are at Israel’s side, to reaffirm the right of the Jewish state to defend its existence,” the union emphasized. Additionally, they recalled “the danger of Iran, a source of serious destabilization of democracy in Europe too: Iran and its allies coordinate and finance cells and branches of terrorism and Islamic radicalization in our countries too.”
