Tajani Expresses Hope Italians in Germany Avoid Voting for AfD

Berlin: Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani expressed his hope on Friday that Italians residing in Germany would refrain from voting for the far-right Alternative for Germany (AfD) party. Tajani emphasized that the AfD does not have any favorable sentiments towards Italy.

According to Ansa News Agency, Tajani, who also serves as Italy’s deputy premier, made these remarks while attending a European People’s Party (EPP) meeting in Berlin. He stated, “I hope no Italian votes for AfD in Germany. Also because they have no sympathy for Italy.”

In response to inquiries from journalists regarding potential alliances with Germany’s far-right and collaborations between the EPP and far-right parties in Europe, Tajani was unequivocal. He repeatedly stressed, “I have nothing to do with AfD and I don’t want to have anything to do with it,” adding that he is “light years away from their ideology.”
