Extreme Concern for Object on Train Line: Transport Ministry

Venice: Italy’s transport ministry on Saturday expressed extreme concern over the discovery of a bike chain on a rail line in Veneto on Thursday. This incident has raised suspicions within the rail company Ferrovie dello Stato (FS) that recent faults causing significant disruption might have been the result of deliberate sabotage.

According to Ansa News Agency, the transport ministry issued a statement saying, “The complaint formalized by FS after the report, in Veneto, of an object that could have caused significant damage to the pantograph and the train power line is extremely worrying.” The ministry emphasized that the possibility of an attack on transport infrastructure is a serious matter that cannot be underestimated. This incident adds to a list of concerns following a complaint made by FS a few days ago regarding similar issues.

The transport ministry expressed hope for a swift resolution, stressing the urgency of the situation. Deputy Prime Minister and Transport Minister Matteo Salvini is closely monitoring developments, indicating the high level of attention the government is giving to this potential threat to national transportation.
