Suspect Held After University Student Stabbed to Death in Messina

Messina: Carabinieri police have arrested a man suspected of fatally stabbing a female university student in broad daylight on a Messina street on Monday, with numerous witnesses present, sources reported on Tuesday. The victim, identified as Sara Campanella, was a 22-year-old student from Palermo, enrolled in the nursing sciences faculty at the University of Messina.

According to Ansa News Agency, the suspect is believed to be a university companion of Campanella. The tragic incident occurred when Campanella was killed by a single stab wound to the jugular, following an argument with a young man, as witnessed by onlookers.

This incident adds to a troubling pattern of femicides and gender-based violence that Italy has been grappling with in recent times.
