Milan: Street art portraying Holocaust survivors Liliana Segre, a Life Senator, and Sami Modiano, titled “Anti-Semitism, History Repeating,” was removed after being created on September 30 in Milan by artist aleXsandro Palombo, the artist announced on Monday.
According to Ansa News Agency, the mural located in Milan’s Piazzale Loreto was vandalized on November 11. It was defaced with Stars of David sprayed across it, and the face of Life Senator Segre was disfigured. The removal of the artwork has stirred emotions, with Palombo expressing his deep embarrassment and viewing the act as a double offense. He highlighted that this removal conceals anti-Semitism at a time when its prevalence is increasing, and noted the recent denial of honorary citizenship to a Holocaust survivor in Pinerolo, near Turin, as a related issue.
