Rome: Premier Giorgia Meloni on Monday expressed satisfaction at Istat’s jobs data for October showing a drop in the unemployment rate and a rise in the number of people in work.
According to Ansa News Agency, Meloni conveyed her approval on social media, stating, “We welcome the data for October released today by Istat, with employment rising and the unemployment rate falling.” She emphasized the government’s commitment to enhancing employment opportunities, supporting families and businesses, and fostering a future of growth and stability for Italy.
The report highlighted that Italy’s unemployment rate fell to 5.8% in October, marking a 0.2 percentage point decrease from the previous month. Notably, the jobless rate for under-25s who are active in the labor market also saw a significant drop, decreasing by 1.1 points to 17.7%.
After a decline in September, the number of employed individuals in Italy increased in October, with an addition of 47,000 people, bringing the working population to 24.092 million
. Istat noted an increase in the number of people hired on permanent contracts and those who are self-employed, while the number of temporary workers decreased.
The agency further reported that the number of people in employment rose by 363,000 compared to October 2023, with the employment rate climbing to 62.5%, an increase of 0.1 percentage point. Meanwhile, the inactivity rate slightly rose by 0.1 point to 33.6%.
