Stellantis’s Ownership Structure Criticized by Salvini.

Rome: Stellantis’s ownership structure has come under scrutiny, as Deputy Premier and Transport Minister Matteo Salvini emphasized that it is the main issue facing the multinational automotive company. Salvini has urged Chairman John Elkann to present himself before parliament following the resignation of CEO Carlos Tavares and suggested that the company should reimburse the public funds it has received from the Italian State over the years.

According to Ansa News Agency, Salvini expressed concerns that the current ownership of Stellantis lacks Italian representation and has historically utilized funds from Italy to establish factories overseas. Salvini highlighted his commitment to the workers and their families, stating that safeguarding their interests is a priority. He criticized the company’s use of public money, describing it as a poor business practice.

Salvini further demanded that Elkann should have already made an appearance in Parliament, bringing with him a tangible repayment for the billions of
euros in public money that Stellantis has reportedly collected. He pointed out that the company still benefits from state-guaranteed loans amounting to billions of euros, yet continues to close operations, furlough employees, and implement layoffs. Salvini emphasized that Stellantis profits when advantageous but seeks concessions at the expense of its workforce.
