Rome: The father of Giulia Cecchettin expressed his somber reflections on society after his daughter’s ex-boyfriend, Filippo Turetta, was sentenced to life imprisonment for her femicide on Tuesday. He remarked, “We have all lost as a society” when confronting the pervasive issue of gender violence.
According to Ansa News Agency, Gino Cecchettin shared his thoughts with journalists following the announcement of Turetta’s sentence. He described his emotions as neither more relieved nor saddened than before, expressing a strange feeling that he thought would leave him unaffected. Despite acknowledging that justice had been served, Gino emphasized the need for society to do more to combat gender violence through prevention and education. He concluded by expressing a sense of defeat as a human being in the face of such societal challenges.
