ROME: The president of the Lower House’s productive activities committee, Alberto Gusmeroli, announced on Tuesday that Stellantis Chairman John Elkann has declined a request to appear before parliament. This request came in the wake of Carlos Tavares stepping down as CEO of the Italian-French-American carmaker.
According to Ansa News Agency, Gusmeroli revealed that he had a phone conversation with Elkann concerning a renewed request for a parliamentary hearing. Elkann expressed gratitude for the continued attention Parliament is giving to the automotive sector and Stellantis. However, he stated that he would prefer to hold off on any parliamentary reporting until after discussions with the Business and Made in Italy Ministry are concluded.
Elkann indicated that an institutional discussion could be scheduled later, in alignment with the motions presented in Parliament. This suggests that while there is a temporary delay, future engagements with Parliament are anticipated once ongoing negotiations reach a con
clusion.
