Soccer: Sorry for Donnarumma But No Worries Says Gravina
Rome: Italian Soccer Federation (FIGC) Gabriele Gravina said Wednesday he was sorry at Gianluigi Donnarumma’s split with Paris Saint-Germain but there were no worries about the Italy keeper being ready for the Azzurri’s next World Cup qualifiers against Estonia and Israel early next month.
According to Ansa News Agency, Gravina expressed his disappointment on both a personal and technical level regarding Donnarumma’s current situation with PSG. Donnarumma, who has been dropped for the Super Cup final against Spurs, is reportedly at odds with the club and seeking a transfer. Gravina described him as a significant player and expressed hope that he would regain his balance and continue to demonstrate his international capabilities.
Gravina emphasized his belief in Donnarumma’s abilities, stating that everyone is convinced of his status as the strongest goalkeeper globally. With the national team’s upcoming World Cup qualifying matches on the horizon, Gravina expressed confidence in Donnarumma’s readiness and c
ollaboration with new Italy coach Rino Gattuso.
The FIGC president reassured fans by highlighting Donnarumma’s maturity and the support he receives, which he believes will ensure his optimal performance. Italy faces pressure to qualify for the World Cup after a recent 3-0 defeat to Norway, leaving them possibly heading towards a playoff. With only the group winner advancing directly to the tournament in the USA, Mexico, and Canada next year, Gravina’s confidence in Donnarumma’s role is crucial as Italy competes against Estonia, Israel, and Moldova.
