Soccer: Inzaghi Quits Inter, Poised to Sign for Al Hilal

Milan: Simone Inzaghi told Inter bosses Tuesday he is leaving and ready to sign with Saudi club Al Hilal. Inzaghi had talks with Chairman Beppe Marotta on his future after Saturday’s 5-0 defeat to Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League final.

According to Ansa News Agency, Marotta had expressed his desire for Inzaghi to remain despite the recent setback, but the 49-year-old coach has been linked to a lucrative move to the Saudi club. Under Inzaghi, Inter secured the 2023-24 Serie A title and won two Italian Cups since his arrival in 2021. The team also reached the Champions League final twice during his tenure.

Inter issued a statement saying: “The Club and Simone Inzaghi are parting ways. This is the decision taken by mutual agreement after the meeting that took place a few minutes ago. Inzaghi’s management of Inter will be remembered by fans, players, managers, and employees as being characterised by great passion, accompanied by professionalism and dedication.”

Inzaghi expressed his sentiments, stating: “Dear Nerazzurri family, the time has come for me to say goodbye to this club after a journey of four years, during which I gave everything. Every day I dedicated my first and last thought of the day to Inter. I was reciprocated with professionalism and passion by the players, managers, and every single employee of the club.”
