Skiing: Brignone Says Working for Olympics Without Certainty

Milan: Italian skiing star Federica Brignone said Tuesday she was working hard to try to recover in time for next year’s Olympics in Milan-Cortina two months to the day after breaking her left leg in a fall at the Italian championships on April 3. But she stressed that she could still not give fans any “certainty” that she will be back in time.

According to Ansa News Agency, Brignone was speaking at Juventus J Medical centre, where she was operated on for a compound fracture on April 4, and where she has been working constantly since on rehab, telling fans she can’t wait to get off her crutches.

Valdostana Brignone, 34, is the all-time most successful Italian woman skier in the World Cup and her 37 wins put her behind only the great Alberto Tomba, on 50, for both sexes. Brignone also has two Olympic silvers and a bronze as well as two world championship golds and three silvers.

As well as her recent second overall World Cup crown, Brignone also got the downhill and giant slalom crystal globes.
