Severe Weather to Hit Italy Tuesday, Followed by Sunshine on Wednesday

Rome: Italy will brace for another wave of severe weather on Tuesday, but sunshine and average temperatures for the period are expected to return by Wednesday, a top forecaster has announced. Torrential rain has already caused widespread flooding and landslides in Liguria overnight, with trees uprooted and power outages reported near Vicenza. Roofs were blown off amid more flooding in the Verona area, where falling trees damaged dozens of cars.

According to Ansa News Agency, Tuesday will witness more widespread severe weather, but sunshine and average temperatures are anticipated on Wednesday. Lorenzo Tedici, media manager for iLMeteo.it, stated that this stable situation is expected to last at least until the second ten days of the month. “The next few hours,” he mentioned, “will see further severe weather in Lombardy, eastern Liguria, the northeast, and all the Tyrrhenian regions up to Campania.”

High temperatures are expected to drop significantly in Sardinia, Emilia-Romagna, and the Triveneto region. Meanwhile, a brief ‘African heatwave’ will affect Puglia and the Ionian regions of Basilicata, Calabria, and Sicily, with peaks reaching 37-38°C. Winds will blow from the west, ranging from strong to gale-force in Liguria and the central-northern Tyrrhenian regions.

Consequently, the seas will be very rough or locally agitated, particularly in the Central Tyrrhenian Sea, the Ligurian Sea, and the Sea of Sardinia. However, sunny weather is expected to return immediately on Wednesday, except for a few last moments of instability in the far south.

Temperatures will decrease in the south, rise in the center and north, and reach seasonal averages across the country. According to iLMeteo.it, “high pressure is expected to prevail, with decidedly sunny conditions in the center and south and only intermittently variable in the north, but without major disturbances, at least until the second ten days of September and perhaps until September 22, the autumnal equinox.”

The detailed forecast highlights that on Tuesday, the north will experience rain and strong thunderstorms, which will improve in the afternoon. The center will face bad weather in the Tyrrhenian sectors, while the south will see worsening conditions with thunderstorms in Campania and occasional elsewhere.

By Wednesday, scattered clouds are expected in the north during the morning, followed by sunshine. The center will clear up everywhere from the afternoon, and the south will be variable in the morning, then clear. Thursday is expected to bring mostly fine weather to the north, good weather to the center, and sunny conditions to the south. The outlook suggests a rising anticyclone, leading to stable and sunny weather for the rest of the week.
