Senate Approves New Laws on Obesity and Body Shaming
Rome: The Senate on Wednesday gave final approval to two separate bills with measures to combat obesity and body shaming. Under the first law, a national plan for the prevention and treatment of obesity will be implemented, with training for doctors and pediatricians and the creation of an observatory for the study of obesity within the health ministry.
According to Ansa News Agency, lawmakers for the parties supporting the government voted in favor of the bill, while the opposition abstained, citing concerns that the legislation was too weak and required more funding to effectively address the issue. The second law, aimed at tackling body shaming, establishes May 16 as a national day against body shaming. On this day, initiatives will be organized to highlight the dangers of criticizing individuals for their physical appearance.
