Satnam Singh Boss Admits to Losing Control After Fatal Accident

Latina: The boss of Satnam Singh, a 31-year-old Indian farm laborer, testified during a manslaughter trial on Tuesday, admitting to losing control after a tragic accident last June. Singh, who worked off-the-books, was found with a severed arm outside his hut, placed on a fruit-picking box. He bled out following the incident at Latina, south of Rome.

According to Ansa News Agency, Antonello Lovato, the 39-year-old employer accused of causing Singh’s death, confessed to being overwhelmed by the situation. “I found Satnam there and I lost my head: it wasn’t me,” Lovato stated in court. He expressed regret, saying, “I never wanted his death. The news of his passing two days after the accident destroyed me. There is not a day that I don’t think of him and his family. I will always be close to Satnam’s wife.”

The trial, which began on Tuesday, highlights issues of gangmastering and the exploitation of migrant laborers in Italy. The next hearing is scheduled for May 27.
