Russia Asserts Control Over Strategic Settlement in Eastern Ukraine

MOSCOW: The Russian Defense Ministry has announced the capture of another settlement in Ukraine’s eastern Donetsk region, marking a significant development in the ongoing conflict. The ministry reported that Russian forces have taken control of the village of Zoryane, with this being the sixth settlement they have claimed in the past week.

According to Anadolu Agency, the operation was executed by the Southern group of forces. In addition, other Russian military units have reportedly enhanced their strategic positions, seizing Western-made weapons and military equipment as trophies. The ministry’s statement detailed extensive military gains since the onset of what it terms a “special military operation,” citing the destruction of a vast array of Ukrainian military assets, including 646 aircraft, 283 helicopters, and 33,824 drones.

The report also mentioned the elimination of 582 air defense systems and 18,735 tanks and other armored combat vehicles. The Russian forces claim to have destroyed 1,477 multiple
rocket launchers, 16,372 field artillery and mortar guns, and 27,407 special military vehicles over the course of the conflict.

Ukraine has not yet responded to Russia’s latest claims, and independent verification remains difficult amid ongoing hostilities in the region. The lack of immediate commentary from Ukrainian officials reflects the complexities and challenges inherent in confirming on-the-ground developments in conflict zones.
