Iran’s Supreme Leader Vows Continued Support for Palestinian Resistance After Sinwar’s Death

TEHRAN: Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei has reiterated Iran’s commitment to supporting Palestinian resistance movements following the death of Yahya Sinwar, head of the Hamas political bureau, who was killed in a recent Israeli military operation.

According to Anadolu Agency, Khamenei expressed his sentiments in a statement posted on the social media platform X. He acknowledged the loss of Yahya Sinwar as a significant blow to the Resistance Front, but emphasized that the movement’s progress would not be hindered by the martyrdom of its leaders. Khamenei asserted that Hamas remains resilient and will continue its struggle, extending condolences to Sinwar’s family and comrades.

The statement came in the wake of Sinwar’s death during an Israeli military operation in southern Gaza earlier this week. Khamenei reaffirmed Iran’s unwavering support for Palestinian fighters, stating, “As always, we will stand by the sincere Palestinian mujahideen and fighters.”

The conflict has intensified since last
October when Hamas carried out a cross-border incursion into Israel, resulting in approximately 1,200 Israeli deaths and the taking of 250 hostages. Israel’s response has led to the deaths of over 42,000 Palestinians in Gaza.

In the aftermath of Sinwar’s killing, Hamas has declared that Israeli captives will not be released unless Israel halts its military operations, withdraws its forces, and releases Palestinian prisoners held in Israeli jails. Sinwar had assumed leadership following the assassination of former Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh on July 31 in Tehran.
