Turkish Rider Toprak Razgatlioglu Clinches 2024 World Superbike Championship
JEREZ: Turkish motorcycle racer Toprak Razgatlioglu, representing ROKiT BMW, has won the 2024 World Superbike Championship following his performance at the Jerez circuit in Spain.
According to Anadolu Agency, Razgatlioglu secured his second world title by finishing second in the 20-lap Race 1 of the Prometeon Spanish Round. The race concluded in 33 minutes and 32.738 seconds, with Aruba Ducati’s Nicolo Bulega taking the first place in the Jerez competition. Despite being 6.067 seconds behind Bulega, Razgatlioglu’s overall points rose to 493, sealing his victory in the championship.
Razgatlioglu’s closest competitor, Bulega, accumulated 452 points before the upcoming Sunday race, which will have no impact on Razgatlioglu’s title. The gap between Razgatlioglu and Bulega stands at 41 points. In the World Superbike series, race winners earn 25 points, while second-place finishers receive 20 points. Andrea Locatelli of Pata Yamaha Prometeon secured third place in the Jerez race.
Razgatlioglu previously claimed
the 2021 Superbike world title with Pata Yamaha. Celebrating his latest triumph, he retreated to his cabin, designed like a flying saucer, to change from his racing attire. Razgatlioglu emerged wearing a gold race suit, helmet, and an alien mask, posing for photographs as the season’s champion. This championship marks his first title with ROKiT BMW.
The Spanish Round’s Superpole Race and Race 2 are scheduled to take place on Sunday, though they will not affect the championship standings.
