Rome Prosecutor Seeks Confirmation of Dall’Oglio Body Find

Rome: Rome’s chief prosecutor is seeking confirmation of a report that the body of Jesuit priest Father Paolo Dall’Oglio, who disappeared in Syria in 2013, has been found in a mass grave in the Middle Eastern country, investigative sources said Tuesday.

According to Ansa News Agency, the Rome prosecutor’s office has delegated the Carabinieri of the ROS anti-terrorism unit to look for any confirmation on the discovery of the body of Dall’Oglio, a Roman Jesuit who disappeared on 29 July 2013 in northern Syria.

Investigative sources said there is maximum caution regarding the news of the body of a man in religious clothing found in a mass grave near Raqqa. They pointed out that similar news had already arrived in the past, but was always later denied by DNA tests.

In 2023, the investigating judge of the capital shelved the investigation started in 2013 on the Dall’Oglio affair, as requested by the Prosecutor’s Office. According to what was reconstructed by the investigators, the religious was killed twelve years ago in the Raqqa area.
