20-Year Prison Sentence for Russian Spy Walter Biot Upheld on Appeal
Rome: A 20-year prison sentence for Walter Biot, the Navy officer arrested in March 2021 while, in the parking lot of a shopping center in the capital, he was handing over classified documents to officials of the Russian embassy, was confirmed on appeal Tuesday. The judges of the Court of Assizes of Appeal of Rome upheld the conviction of Biot, who was found guilty again, among other things, of the crimes of espionage and corruption.
According to Ansa News Agency, the supreme Court of Cassation has already made definitive a sentence of 29 years and 2 months pronounced by the Military Court of Appeal for similar facts, relating to the violation of military secrecy in exchange for money.
