Rieti Basketball Fan Admits Fatal Rock Throw

Rieti: A 20-year-old fan of the Rieti basketball team has confessed to throwing a stone that resulted in the death of a bus driver transporting supporters of the Pistoia basketball team after a match on Sunday.

According to Ansa News Agency, Kevin Pellecchia was arrested alongside two other individuals with far-right affiliations. While at the police headquarters, Pellecchia was intercepted on a phone call where he reportedly admitted to the act, describing the rock he used as “the sharpest one.”

The incident occurred on the A2 highway when the bus was allegedly attacked by Rieti fans as it departed the central Italian city following the game, which Pistoia won with a score of 88-73.

Law enforcement officials have been interrogating several Rieti supporters as part of their ongoing investigation into the circumstances surrounding the attack.

The victim, Raffaele Marianella, was a 65-year-old originally from Rome but residing in Florence. He had been employed by Jimmy Travel, the company operating the coach, for only a few months. During the attack, Marianella was not driving but was seated next to a colleague at the wheel. He was reportedly nearing retirement.
