King Charles Sits on Specially Created Chair During Historic Visit to St. Paul’s

Rome: King Charles on Thursday participated in an ecumenical service at St. Paul’s Outside the Walls, marking a significant moment as he took a seat on a specially created chair in the Roman basilica. This event holds historical importance as King Charles is the first British monarch in 500 years to pray with Pope Leo in the Sistine Chapel.

According to Ansa News Agency, the chair used by King Charles bears the coat of arms of “His Majesty” and features the Latin motto Ut unum sint, which translates to “That they may be one.” This phrase is a quote from chapter 17 of the Gospel of St. John and is similar in meaning to the motto chosen by Pope Leo, “In Illo uno unum,” meaning “in one God, we are one.” The chair will remain in the basilica for use by all future British monarchs.

During the service, prayers were focused on the hope that church leaders may lead the way for freedom, justice, and truth, as well as for the Earth, which was referred to as “our common home whose cry we hear.”
