Report Dall’Oglio’s Body Found in Syria, Sister Doubtful

Raqqa: The body of Father Paolo Dall’Oglio, an Italian Jesuit priest who was kidnapped in Syria in 2013, has reportedly been found in a mass grave in the Middle Eastern country, although his sister swiftly said she was sceptical about the news.

According to Ansa News Agency, “The corpse of a man in religious clothing believed to be that of Father Paolo Dall’Oglio was found in a mass grave near Raqqa in Syria,” reported weekly magazine Oggi. It said the bishop of Qamishli had announced the discovery and it was confirmed by the apostolic nuncio in Damascus Cardinal Mario Zenari. “I was informed last night,” said Zenari.

But the priest’s sister, Francesca Dall’Oglio, was not convinced. “There has often been fake news (about this) in recent years,” she told Rainews 24. “I don’t think this news is true. There is talk of a body wearing religious clothing but my brother was wearing civilian clothes”.
